Download the latest version of the MicroType Express software from www.sparkfun.com/products/13592, you will need the microtype program to use the updated archive files. Click on the microtype download link to start the download. When the program starts, it will tell you about any update or error messages, if any, you will be prompted to close the program.
You will now need to locate your newly created archive file and extract it. You will have to rename it to ‘font.ttf’ or ‘MicroType.ttf’ or ‘font.ttc’ or ‘MicroType.ttc’ (depending on what you named it when you created the archive), before you can use it. This is where you will be able to see if it is successful or not.
If you have any problems, make sure you restart your machine and exit the program entirely, then double click ‘SparkFun Pro Micro (COM ##)’ in the ‘Device Manager’ to reopen it. Then open the archive and rename it to ‘font.ttf’ and start the download.

Download a copy of the microtype package from the FontLab Font Collection ! FontLab makes it easy to create a microtype configuration file for any font. Plus, now you can choose to freely distribute your font if you want, which means FontLab takes care of the licensing, sending you all the licenses you need to free distribute your font.
After downloading and unzipping the MicroType catalog, run the installation.exe (installer.exe) file. This will create the MicroType “Icons” folder and run the MicroType icon if needed. Once MicroType installation is complete, exit the installation program.
For Windows XP and Vista, first go to Start>All Programs>Search’s and locate and click MicroType 3.0. For Windows 7, Vista and Windows 8, right click on the newly created icon and choose the option Run as Administrator.
The MicroType Express font format has two basic parts: the core font data and the glyph mapping data. The core font data in the MicroType Express font file are represented by a set of tables and fields, the set being composed of all the mandatory, optional, system, and private tables, as well as some additional custom tables. The glyph mapping data in the MicroType Express font file comprises the location data for all glyphs. The glyph mapping data are an optimized representation of the location data for a font. While the glyph mapping data are not part of the core font data, they do influence how, and whether or not, the font is used for font substitution.
