The program requires a very low amount of CPU and system memory, and quickly performs a scanning task. During our evaluation, WinTidy displayed several items in the results list which are not necessarily ripe for deletion, such as antivirus backup files.

A simple to use tool

Using WinTidy is quite straightforward. The program’s interface is clean and intuitive. Just navigate to the directory containing files, choose the drive(s) to be scanned, set a folder mask and start the scanning.
Notably, the app lets you know in details the location, size, date of modification, attributes, version and product version for each file.
The most unique feature of WinTidy is the provision of ‘extra’ files, which are apparently created by the operating system and are marked to be hidden in the filesystem and with attributes indicating that they are read-only.
The software can only find those extra files by using an external application, such as the Recycle Bin. You may then freely delete those items, but they won’t be visible again.
Additional findings
On first launch of the app, it presents you with a pop-up window asking whether you want to start the cleanup process. An additional message is displayed indicating that WinTidy only keeps some files in the Windows recycle bin, and deleting them won’t affect the computer’s boot process.
The software’s performance is very good. In our tests, it scanned our test image in about 70 seconds, moving about two dozen useful files to the Recycle Bin. The results list is full of even more than 200 entries, but most of them don’t have any value. However, there are a few dozen non-system files that we don’t want to delete, such as antivirus backup files.
Use the simple utility to free up space on your computer and maintain it at a very high level for free, simply by removing the unwanted and unnecessary files. All you need is a drive or folders that have at least a dozen of files and the app will scan them to locate those that are unnecessary and remove them. WinTidy is a free and simple tool that enables you to easily clean up your hard drive. It will scan all the folders on your hard drive, which means you can run it on multiple computers without wasting any time at all. It should be noted that it does not delete files from your system’s Recycle Bin.

It does have a few limitations, and it’s only recommended for advanced users. If you are still wondering if you should use the software, continue reading to find out what it does and what its flaws are.
Installation
This is a very straightforward tool so there’s no need for downloading extra libraries. Just download the executable file, save it to your hard drive and run it. You can simply point to the location of the.exe file, or add the app to your PC Programs and Features.
WinTidy was a good app to use, but didn’t work as it should. Unfortunately, there was no option to delete the directories, as the scan didn’t work properly.
That’s not all though. During our review of this application, we detected a flaw in the workings of the system. We made sure WinTidy was working fine on a brand-new computer with a fresh install. Our test involved the drive “C:”.
Steps taken
Step 1: Right-click the desktop and select ‘New > Directory’.
Step 2: Rename the folder to ‘Recycle Bin’ (or ‘Trash’).
Step 3: Click ‘OK’ to create the directory.
Step 4: Delete all the files in the Recycle Bin folder.
Step 5: Scan the Recycle Bin folder and delete everything that is unnecessary.
Step 6: Restart the computer.
Our test finished at this point and we couldn’t find the deleted files. It should be noted that we rebooted and removed the Recycle Bin folder completely.
We tried the software at another computer, and the results were the same. That’s not all though.
WinTidy can’t scan folders in the Recycle Bin, as it simply won’t detect any files.
It can be understood when you think about it. In order to work as intended, the software needs to have access to a location where deleted files are stored, and there should be no folder named ‘Recycle Bin’.
As long as there’s no ‘Recycle Bin’, there’s no way to see anything inside the directory.
