Pleasure P, The Introduction Of Marcus Cooper Full Album Zip
pleasure p is different from his brother, rico. rico is more of the rhyme, pleasure p is more of the melody. rico made good records. i believe that god made them both for a reason. they both have their own unique ways of doing things. i learned from my brother; when i had my first problems, i listened to his records, and that helped me with a lot of things. rico is a great musician. he is amazing. he is one of the best. i love rico, i love my brother. but i have a lot of pride for myself. i thank god for giving me these talents, but i have to stand on my own two feet. i have to go out there, i have to earn my money, i have to be responsible. i want to make records for my people, and i want them to stand up and say: look, this is a marcus cooper record. this is the first time he put something out. he did it for us, so we can stand up and say, im a marcus cooper fan.
where better to perform than coopers new home of miami? pleasure p loves the hustle, the culture and the energy of south beach, which has truly taken off in recent years with new restaurants, nightclubs and a whole new wave of creative, hard-working artists that come here to showcase their talents to the world.
cooper had much success with the four members of pretty ricky, but its apparent that the artist isnt afraid to straddle the waters of his solo album to explore a broader audience. while his debut album spawned three singles and peaked at number four on the billboard 200, pleasure p has delivered a much more complete project.
since he left the group, pleasure p has become a fixture in the club scene, frequently performing at new york citys b.b. king blues club, where he is sponsored by the venue. he also has a residency at the uptown bar in harlem, where he performs weekly. in the past, cooper has guested with musical masterminds, including dj khaled, david banner, and lil wayne. while performing in clubs, pleasure p is afforded the opportunity to hone his vocal skills, as he explains.
the album opens with the soul-jazz styled lying, which sees pleasure p play off the classic piano and sax solo of his mentor, stevie wonder. he looks to be inspired to not only make more money and build his own business, but to start searching for his own place — and possibly marriage — in the city.
the themes of a long-term relationship and family responsibilities tend to come up as pleasure p moves from the coast to the city, and a few of his female cohorts join him on stage. the showstopper of the album is the title track, which veers from the danceable shuffle of the tune to a more intimate, soulful performance. pleasure p paints a portrait of a man moving on from a tumultuous relationship with the line, baby i’ve been cheated on/ can’t you see i’m moving on. the more he looks for love in all the wrong places, the more he realizes it’s in his own heart and home. this song isn’t about the naughty bits of a relationship, but about a relationship that has run its course, and a person who is ready to make the most of it. the album takes its title from the fact that pleasure p is not only ready to accept, but move on from his experience. the introduction of marcus cooper is about being mature enough to not feel like it’s too late to make a change in your life, and that you shouldn’t fall back into bad habits. coopers strength lies in pleasure ps ability to bring a touch of sweetness to the production without making it too sweet, making the experience one of pleasure.
on the flip side of the album, its title track, a song pleasure p wrote about a guy who cheated on his girlfriend, is a raw, edgy call to not fall back on your old ways. even as marcus wraps up a relationship, pleasure p keeps the message clear.
